CARY, N.C.– Mansfield University softball notched another win in Cary, N.C. scoring 12 runs over Shaw on Saturday.

In game one, Shaw (1-7-0) quickly made it a game of singles putting their first four hitters on base and scoring in the opening inning.

Senior Raechel Sterner came through in her first at-bat with a one-out RBI single to cut the Bear's lead to 2-1 at the bottom of the first. Veteran
Leah McGovern followed suit sending in Sterner and
Koryn Wickwire to put Mansfield (2-3-0) ahead 4-2 entering the second.

Sierra Storm blanked Shaw in the next three innings as the Mountaineers continued their hit parade. MU scored three runs in the second and one in the third to stretch their lead to 8-2 entering the fourth frame. Wickwire and Sterner put up back-to-back doubles and
Anastasia Hester singled, all taking advantage of the left center gap.

Kiana Rogers drove in another Bear in the fifth as Shaw grabbed two more runs but Mansfield added three more security runs to take the 12-7 victory. Hester and
Devin Jones each came through with doubles while Sterner added her second homer in as many days with two outs.

Sterner led the offense with three hits, three runs, three RBIs, while adding 14 putouts.
Casey Pearce totaled four hits, a run, and an RBI while
Leah McGoverned recorded 2 putouts and two assists.

Storm earned her first win of the season dealing Sheniqua Fahie the loss.
Brooke Roys provided relief and dealt out a strikeout of her own while
Arianna Young closed out the game on the mound.

Game two opened on a scoreless two innings before Virginia State (3-9-0) was first on the board in the top of the third. Vanessa Ruby tripled to left center with two outs to open a Trojan scoring run over the next two innings.

Wickwire bit back in the fifth frame to lead the offense as she tripled a bomber down the left line allowing Jones to cross the plate.
Â
Virginia State added four more runs in the sixth to seal the Mounties fate 9-1. Domonique pitched a complete game with one strikeout and four walks while Young took her second loss of the season.
Jones dished four putouts and five assists while Wickwire added four putouts and three assists.

The Mountaineers travel just a short distance to take on St. Augustine in an afternoon double-header at noon on Tuesday.
