MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. –
Joelle Snyder and
Rachael Sterner each put up two longballs, taking a 14-0 win over Potomac and a 9-7 victory against Herkimer at Ned Donkle Complex.
Â
Koryn Wickwire and
Anastasia Hester also took round trips on day one in Myrtle Beach.
Â
Snyder wasted no time putting Mansfield (2-3-0) on the board in game one, driving a homer deep to right center in the bottom of the first. Sterner scored on a Chidester single to take the 2-0 lead. Neither team would score in the next inning, but Mansfield broke the silence with eight runs in the third inning.
Â
Wickwire doubled before she and
Alli McGovern each scored on a Sterner single through center field. The hit parade continued as
Devin Jones and
Casey Pearce both singled to drive in two more runs. Snyder took advantage of a bases-loaded situation to end the inning with a grand slam to drive in Pearce, Jones, and
Melanie Taylor to make it a 10-0 lead.
Â
The Mountaineers put up back-to-back home runs in Sterner and Hester before plating two more runs to end the fourth.
Â
Potomac (3-2-1) put a runner in scoring position in the third but was no match for
Arianna Young on the mound. Young just six hits and struck out three batters with no walks in the complete game victory. Makenah Harrington took the loss.
Â
In game two, Wickwire followed Snyder's suit by putting a no-doubter over the center field fence after Herkimer (6-3-0) put up three runs in the first. No General would cross the plate in the next three innings.
Â
In the third inning, Sterner drove in Hester with her fourth home run of the season before Chidester singled in
Leah McGovern through the left side.
Â
Herkimer scored four runs in the top of the fifth and six innings, but Mansfield held on for the win.
Sierra Storm won her second game of the season in the circle, scattering 10 hits over seven innings with a strikeout.
Â
Both games were exhibitions and will not affect any team's record or statistics.
Â
Mansfield is back in action with a 9 a.m. doubleheader against Onondaga Friday.
