Leonard Goes Double-Double in Loss to East Stroudsburg

MANSFIELD – Mia Leonard dropped a career-high 15 points and 14 rebounds, but the Mountaineers dropped a 60-44 decision to East Stroudsburg at First Citizens Community Bank Court on Saturday.

Leonard shot 6-7 from the floor for her first career double-double. The freshman recorded an impressive five blocks totaling all of Mansfield's (7-15, 5-11 PSAC) blocked shots.

Senior Alyssa Mullins recorded 13 points with most of her points coming from her 5-7 performance from the charity strip. Melanie Taylor connected on two trifectas on her way to eight points while grabbing four boards. Mary Kate Rumbaugh and Erin Gibbons each added three points of their own and Rumbaugh grabbed nine rebounds.

Ann McKnight paced East Stroudsburg (13-6, 11-4 PSAC) with 14 points. The Mountaineers held third top scorer in the PSAC Imani Brown to her season low seven points. She was held to seven points earlier this season against Shippensburg.

The Warriors opened up on an 8-0 lead before Melanie Taylor drained two shots from the line. After a slow first quarter, the Mounties came back to outscore ESU 26-21 in the second and third quarters. East Stroudsburg finished the half as they started it with an eight point run to lead 33-25.

Mullins shot 4-of-5 as Mansfield cut down the Warrior's lead to five with 2:43 left in the third quarter. Both teams would go scoreless until the final 10:00. Leonard scored 11 of her 15 points in the second and third periods.

The Mounties out rebounded ESU 10-to-6 in the ultimate frame, but the Warrior's rallied to secure the 60-44 victory at their largest lead of the game.
