LOCK HAVEN – Mountaineer baseball split Saturday's doubleheader at Lock Haven to go even in Mansfield's PSAC East opening series.
Mansfield (10-11, 2-2 PSAC East) took the opener 1-0 before Lock Haven (12-4, 2-2 PSAC East) surged late to win the nightcap 10-3.
Taylor Hillson led-off the bottom of the first inning with a single into left field and advanced to second on a wild pitch.
Tanner Klein lined a one-out single into the outfield to drive in Hillson and give Mansfield an early 1-0 lead.
Lock Haven recorded hits in the next four innings put could not push across the equalizing run.
Facing a one-run deficit in the top of the seventh, the Lock Haven lead-off hitter got aboard with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Mansfield closer
Tyler Guidos preserved the shutout to give the Mountaineers the win.

Edwin Lopez earned his first win of the season allowing just six hits through 6.0 innings of work. Guidos picked up his third save of the year, pitching the final inning.
The Bald Eagles opened the second game by scoring a pair of runs in the top of the first. But, Mansfield answered back with RBIs by Pena and Paige in the bottom of the frame to tie the game.
After three scoreless innings, Lock Haven plated the go-ahead run in the top of the fifth, but Mansfield answered again in the bottom of the inning when
Brady Mengel scored on a passed ball.
Lock Haven scored another run in the sixth and six runs in the seventh to earn the win.
Brett Morrison threw 5.1 innings with four hits allowed to earn the win. Breton Larose got the save.
The two losses handed to Lock Haven in the four-game series are just the third and fourth of the season for the Eagles. Lock Haven was ranked seventh in the latest Atlantic Region rankings.
The Mountaineers take on Penn College in a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday at Historic Bowman Field.
