Ricci’s Late Heroics Force Overtime but Mounties Fall at Lock Haven 69-61

MANSFIELD – Bella Ricci knocked down two 3-pointers in the final nine seconds, including one with 0.7 seconds remaining to force overtime, but Lock Haven survived a 69-61 PSAC East thriller Wednesday night at Thomas Field House.

Tianna Jackson hit a five 3-pointers on her way to a career-high 22 points in the game.  Four of the senior's career-best five treys came in the first half. She was 5-8 from the free throw line.

Alyssa Mullins dominated the boards with a career-high 13 rebounds to go along with four points. All of her rebounds were on the defensive end.

Ricci scored 10 points with Brielle Kelly adding nine.

Kayla Henderson paced Lock Haven with a game-high 23 points.

The game opened with five lead changes before a Jackson lay-up and 3-pointer back-to-back gave Mansfield a two-possession lead at 14-9. A Kelly lay-up and two Jackson free throws in the final seconds capped a 21-point first quarter as the Mounties held a 21-12 advantage.

Lock Haven inched closer in the second quarter, outscoring the Mountaineers 14-9 in the quarter to trail by just four points at halftime.

The Lady Eagles tied the game at 31-31 at the 6:16 mark in the third quarter and took their first lead of the half three minutes later on Maimuna Kenneh's lay-up. Lock Haven held a slim 42-40 advantage at the end of the third.

With Lock Haven leading 46-42 early in the fourth, a pair of Mary Kate Rumbaugh free throws brought the Mounties within two before a Jackson hit a go-ahead trifecta. Lock Haven regained the lead and Madison McHale hit a free throw to give the Eagles a five-point lead with 13 seconds to play.

Following a timeout, Ricci nailed a 3-pointer to bring Mansfield within two points with nine seconds to play. The Mountaineers immediately fouled to put Rileigh Devine at the line to shoot two. Devine missed the first, but hit the second to put the Eagles ahead by three points. Ricci pushed the ball the full length of the court, used a ball screen at the top of the key and sunk the 3-pointer to force overtime.

Mansfield was unable to complete the comeback as Lock Haven outscored its opponent 15-7 in the frame to secure the win.

The Mountaineers return to Decker Gymnasium on Saturday for Senior Day.
