No. 13 Ship Pulls Away From Mounties Down the Stretch

Cedrick Powell topped four Mountaineers in double-figures with 17 points but it wouldn't be enough as No. 13 Shippensburg pulled away late in the game for a 81-63 win in a PSAC East contest Saturday afternoon.

Mansfield held its own for much of the game, trailing by just 62-60 when
Andreas Katopodis hit a 3-pointer with just over six minutes remaining but the Mountaineers would be able to score only one more field goal the rest of the contest with Shippensburg finishing with a 19-3 run to pull out the win.

The Mountaineer shot 47% from the floor compared to the Raiders 43% but Shippensburg made six more 3-pointers than Mansfield and 12 more free throws while holding a commanding 41-25 rebounding advantage.

In addition to Powell's 17 points,
Matt Tamanosky scored 14 points with six rebounds and
Malik Carter 12 points along with four assists and three steals.
Jahyde Gardiner scored 11 points with six boards.

Mansfield had no answer for Dustin Sleva who led Shippensburg with 33 points and 12 rebounds. Justin McCarthur scored 21 points.

The loss was the second in a week for the Mountaineers to nationally ranked programs.

Mansfield host Bloomsburg on Wednesday.
