Larissa Motts scored twice and Kate Lipski added another to lead Mansfield past Newberry (S.C.) in neutral site, non-conference action on Sunday.

Mansfield (6-6, 1-3 PSAC) struck early with back-to-back goals from Lipski and Motts to take an early 2-0 lead. Lipski scored the first in the fourth minute, taking a penalty corner pass from
Amber Prince and placing the ball past the keeper and into the cage from 10 yards out. Minutes later,
Christie Buyer dribbled down the field and passed off to Motts who finished in goal.

Newberry (5-7, 2-4 ECAC) outshot the Mountaineers 12-6 in the first half and held an 8-1 advantage on corners, but Mansfield would not bend.

Motts scored her second goal of the game and ninth of the season in the 65
th minute when she tapped a Prince pass into the cage to put the game out of reach. It was the third multi-goal game for Motts who is currently tied for fourth in the PSAC in scoring.

The Mountaineers outshot Newberry 11-3 in the second half and held an 8-2 advantage on corners.

Overall, Mansfield totaled a game-high 17 shots with nine on frame.

Brittany Ryan recorded her conference leading fifth shutout of the season making eight saves in goal. Ryan ranks second in the Mansfield record book for shutouts in a season and is just one away from the record of six set by Brianna DeLuca in 2006.

Mansfield's six wins on the season is the most since the 2012 season.

The Mounties return to PSAC play on Wednesday when they host Bloomsburg at Karl Van Norman Field.
