Mounties Drop Heartbreak in OT to No. 14 Kutztown 91-88
MANSFIELD –
Andreas Katopodis drilled a 3-pointer for Mansfield with 2.4 seconds to tie the game but Ethan Ridway hit a 3-pointer with no time remaining on the clock to lift No. 14 Kutztown to a 91-88 overtime win Saturday afternoon on First Citizens Community Bank Court in Decker Gymnasium.
Mansfield trailed by as many as 13 points in the first half before closing the gap to 34-30 at halftime.
The Mountaineers would take their first lead since early in the first half when
Da'Quan Jones nailed a jumper with 1:47 remaining in regulation to put Mansfield ahead 68-66.
Jones added a 3-pointer minutes later to extend the lead to 75-70 but Kutztown made four straight free throws over a span of 11 seconds to close to 75-71. Cedrick Powel made the second of two free throws a second later to give Mansfield a 76-74 lead before Kutztown tied the game on a layup by Anthony Lee.

Malik Carter just before the buzzer fell short of its mark sending the game into overtime.
Matt Tamanosky scored a layup and ensuing free throw to open the overtime period for Mansfield and the game would be tied five times over the next four minutes until Kutztown took an 88-85 lead on a pair of free throws by Ryan Connolly with 11 seconds remaining.
Katopodis hit his game-tying 3-pointer from 20 feet out to tie the game with Ridway dribbling to just outside the three-point line before launching the ball with no time on the clock.
Mansfield took 12 more shots than Kutztown and pulled down 42 rebounds to the Golden Bears 32. Â Mansfield also turned the ball over 16 times to Kutztown's 16 but the Mountaineers shot 42% from the floor to Kutztown's 55%.
Tamanosky topped five Mountaineers in double-figures recording his third double-double of the season with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Jones had a sensational game, scoring a season-high 18 points of which 16 came after halftime.
Cedrick Powell added 14 points with
Jahyde Gardiner just missing a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds.
Malik Carter scored 11 points before fouling out of the game early in the overtime period.
Ryan Connolly scored a game-high 25 points to lead Kutztown.
Mansfield hosts Lock Haven on Wednesday.
