Women's Soccer Host IUP Saturday Afternoon
MANSFIELD – The Mansfield University women's soccer team will continue its tough first week schedule when the Mountaineers host IUP in a PSAC contest at the Soccer Field Saturday starting at 1:30 p.m.
Mansfield dropped a 2-1 heartbreaker in overtime at California last Saturday and played well in a tough 2-0 setback to back-to-back defending PSAC Champion East Stroudsburg on Wednesday.
IUP opened the season with a 1-0 loss to Mercyhurst before recording back-to-back 2-1 victories over Clarion and non-conference opponent Davis & Elkins. Saturday marks IUP first road game of the season.
Although Mansfield has been successful on getting shots on goal, they have struggled a bit on finding the back of the net. Freshman
Emily Smith has the team's lone goal of the season while senior
Danielle Lentz has a team-high six shots. Last year's scoring leader sophomore
Delaney Meadows has five shots over the first two games including four of them on goal.
Mansfield is extremely young this season starting six freshmen in the first two games. Sophomore
Rachel Fox, last year's PSAC 1st Team goalie selection, has appeared in every minute of every game so far this season with 13 saves.
Lexie Palluconi tops IUP with two goals on the year.
Last season scored a season-best four games in a loss to IUP with
Delaney Meadows picking up her first collegiate hat-trick.
IUP has won the last two outings between the two programs. Mansfield battled to a 2-2 tie in 2013.
