Mounties Dominate Offensively in 1-1 Double OT Tie at Daemen
AMHERST,NY –
Nicole Holborn scored her first collegiate goal and Mansfield outshot Daemen 32-15 but the Mountaineers had to settle for a 1-1 tie in double overtime in a non-conference game Wednesday afternoon in Amherst.
Mansfield dominated most of the game offensively putting 15 shots on goal to Daemen's five, but only managed to find the back of the net once on the afternoon.
After battling to a scoreless tie at halftime, Mansfield finally broke through when Holborn headed in a feed from
Nikki Ortiz off a free kick in the 58th minute.
Daemen, which managed just two shots on goal to Mansfield's nine in the second half, tied the score 12 minutes later when Jamie Boyer's long high shot snuck just into the far post.
Mansfield put four shots on goal over the last 17 minutes of the game including a shot by
Emily Smith with just six seconds left.
Delaney Meadows, who had 10 shots including five on goal, last second shot went wide sending the game into overtime.
Mansfield had the only scoring opportunity of the first overtime when
Alexis Bittel put the ball on net in the 98th minute but it was stopped by Daemen goalie Jackie Wescott.
Rachel Fox recorded four saves for Mansfield with Wescott being credited with 14 stops.
Mansfield will host Pitt-Johnstown this Saturday in the program's 15th season celebration.
