FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mounties Drop Twinbill at West Chester

MANSFIELD, Pa. – Mountaineer Baseball fell twice in a PSAC East twinbill at West Chester by scores of 10-5 and 4-3 Saturday afternoon at Serpico Stadium.

Scott Rockwell (Canton, Pa./Canton) and
Wes Custer (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock) each totaled four hits on the day to lead Mansfield offensively.
Â
West Chester (23-10, 13-7 PSAC East) scored a run in the bottom of the first to take an early lead that would stand until the third inning.

In the third,
Zephan Kash gave the Mountaineers a one-run advantage with his two RBI single before Rockwell scored on a passed ball later in the inning to give Mansfield (18-20, 6-14 PSAC East) a 3-1 lead. The Rams would even the score at three runs each by plating a pair in the bottom of the frame.

West Chester's offense continued to roll, scoring three runs in both the fourth and fifth innings before tacking on another in the sixth.
Â
Rockwell scored on another passed ball in the fifth before Custer drove in another run to bring Mansfield to five runs, but it wouldn't be enough.

Andrew Gernert got the win after throwing 5.0 innings with eight hits and no earned runs allowed while fanning seven.
Brandon Garrett took the loss.

In the nightcap,
Tanner Klein's RBI-single down the left field line gave Mansfield an early 1-0 lead, but the Rams answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning to pull even.
Taylor Hillson's bunt single in the second inning put Mansfield on top once again, but the Rams found another equalizer in the following at bats.

In the fourth, Hillson drove in his second run of the day with a ball through the right side, scoring
Ryan Paige to pull ahead 3-2. However, West Chester scored what would prove to be the winning runs in the fifth to sweep the doubleheader.

Mike O'Neill earned the win in relief pitching the final 5.0 innings, allowing four hits and one earned.
Luke Hils went the distance, but took the loss.

The Mountaineers will look for their first road victories of the season when they travel to California (Pa.) for a PSAC crossover doubleheader on Tuesday.
