MANSFIELD –
Brielle Kelly scored a team-best 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds but it wouldn't be enough as Mansfield dropped a 61-38 final at IUP on Saturday in PSAC crossover play.
Melanie Taylor opened the game with a 3-pointer and Mansfield held a 5-2 lead on a good lay-up by Kelly. IUP evened the score at 5-5 and then held a slight 12-11 lead at the 4:43 mark. The Crimson Hawks closed out the quarter with a 10-1 run to lead 21-12.
The Mountaineers pulled within six points at 23-17 after a Macaiah Battle trey but Mansfield would only score six more points before halftime. IUP started to pull away and carried a 40-23 advantage into the break.
Mansfield's offense struggled to get much going to start the second half with
Bella Ricci scoring the Mounties first points of the half on a 3-pointer with five seconds left in the third quarter.
Mansfield outscored the Hawks 12-4 in the fourth quarter.
Kelly scored a game-high 12 points and was one rebound shy of recording her fourth double-double of the season. Battle added seven points with Ricci hitting two treys for six points.
Mary Kate Rumbaugh grabbed seven boards with
Alyssa Mullins pulling down six.
The Mountaineers host Le Moyne on Dec. 19.
