Mounties Give Solid Effort is Setback to Gannon

MANSFIELD – Taylor Lewis scored both goals to lead Gannon to a 2-0 win over Mansfield Saturday afternoon at the Soccer Field.

The well-played game by both team was much more competitive than the final score would indicate.

Mansfield had its best scoring opportunity ten minutes into the game when sophomore Delaney Meadows put on hard high shot on goalie Shannon Differ from 12 yards out. The ball went off the tips of Differ's gloves and slowly rolled to the goal line before Differ was able to recover.

Lewis score her first goal of the game in the 33rd minute off an assist from Emily Cekella.

Gannon went up 2-0 ten minutes into the second have with Lewis again scorning, this time off an assist from Kelsey O'Connor.

Mansfield tried to rally getting shots from Alexis Bittel and Danielle Lentz. Meadows had another solid scoring opportunity in the 73rd minute working her way through a number of defenders and putting a hard-shot on net the was turned away.

Mansfield was outshot 20-12 in the game.

Mountaineer goalie Rachel Fox had nine saves.
