Mounties Drop 1-0 Heartbreaker in Final Minutes of 2OT
MANSFIELD – Hayleigh Swam scored the game's only goal with 62 seconds left in the second overtime to lift Lock Haven to a 1-0 win over Mansfield in a PSAC matchup Tuesday night at Karl Van Norman Field.
It was a heartbreaking loss for the Mountaineers who controlled play much during much of regulation.
Mansfield had a chance to win the game at the end of regulations when the Mountaineers had a three-on-one breakaway in the 88th minute but
Delaney Meadows shot was turned back by Lock Haven goalie Bree Hilty.
Freshman
Eleni Gebbia got off another shot on goal in the final minute that was also turned away.
Neither team got off a shot in the first overtime and it looked as if the game would end in a tie before Lock Haven got a breakaway in the final moments with Swam going right and putting the ball into the far left corner of the goal past a diving Mansfield goalie
Rachel Fox.
Mansfield got off 14 shots on goal to Lock Haven's 11 but the Bald Eagles had seven corners to Mansfield's four.
Fox had 10 saves in goal for Mansfield while Hilty was credited with 14.
It marks the second time in the last three games the Mountaineers had dropped a double-overtime contest.
Mansfield travels to Mercyhurst this Sunday.
