Mounties Host Gannon Saturday
MANSFIELD – The Mansfield University women's soccer team will host Gannon in a PSAC matchup Saturday afternoon starting at 1:30 p.m. at the Soccer Field.
Mansfield played one of its best games of the season in a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to Bloomsburg in double-overtime Wednesday night. Freshman
Emily Smith scored the Mountaineers goal on a header off a corner kick with
Nikki Ortiz and
Nicole Wynne being credited with assists.
It marks the first time Gannon returns to Mansfield since the Mountaineers stunned the Knights 3-2 in overtime of the final game of the 2013 season on a 30-yard goal by
Kelsey Chapman.
Sophomore
Delaney Meadows continues to lead the Mountaineer offense and ranks among the conference leaders with five goals on the season. Smith has two goals with
Danielle Lentz,
Nicole Holborn and
Eleni Gebbia each contributing one goal.
Sophomore goalie
Rachel Fox has 63 saves on the year with two shutouts.
Gannon is 5-3-1 on the season and has won both of its last two games by shutout beating Shippensburg 3-0 and recording a 1-0 win over Clarion. The Knights have not fared as well on the road sporting a 1-3-1 mark.
Taylor Lewis and Nicole Felice have combined for 10 of Gannon's 15 goals on the season.
