Motts and Tanco Score but Mounties Fall at IUP
INDIANA, PA –
Larissa Motts and
Chelsea Tanco both scored goals but it wouldn't be enough as Mansfield dropped a 4-2 decision to IUP in a PSAC soccer matchup Wednesday afternoon.
Action in the game was fast and furious from the start with both teams scoring goals in the first six minutes of the contest.
IUP's Matti Reightler got the game's first goal a little over two minutes into the contest off an assist from Olivia Young.
Mansfield countered when Motts scored her third goal of the season off an assist from
Christie Buyer three minutes later.
IUP retook the lead in the ninth minute when Reightler scored again and the Crimson Hawks added two more goal midway through the half by Salena West and Erica Griffith to take a 4-1 advantage at halftime.
The action in the second half was the opposite of the first with each team being held scoreless until Tanco scored her first goal of the year off a rebound with three minutes remaining in the game.
Laura Lawson had nine saves in goal for Mansfield and is 15 saves shy of becoming the third player in Mansfield history to reach the 600 saves milestone. IUP's Alyssa Lerda recorded two saves.
Mansfield closes out the 2016 campaign this Saturday when the Mountaineers host nationally-ranked Millersville for Senior Day starting at noon.
