MANSFIELD –
Meghan Griffin took an
Amber Prince penalty corner pass with no time remaining and found the back of the goal to give Mansfield an incredible 2-1 win over Seton Hill on a cold and blustery day of PSAC field hockey at Karl Van Norman Field.
Â
The win marks the first PSAC victory of the season for the Mountaineers and avenges a 2-1 overtime loss at Seton Hill earlier this season. Mansfield (2-14, 1-7 PSAC) dominated possession with 20 penalty corners and 19 shots in the game.
Â
Mansfield got an early goal when
Larissa Motts took a
Christie Buyer pass from the left side of goal and beat the keeper in the eighth minute. It was the second career goal for the freshman Motts and the third assist for Buyer.
Â
The Mounties' lead did not last long as Ashley Curnow evened the score with an assist from Dominique Capello to tie the score at 1-1 in the 12
th minute.
Â
Griffin posted a game-high nine shots with four going on goal. It marks the second time this season that Griffin has notched a penalty corner goal win no time remaining after ending No. 2 East Stroudsburg's shutout streak in the 70
th minute two weeks ago. The goal was her third of the season.
Â
Buyer totaled four shots with two on goal.
Â
The Mountaineers travel to IUP on Wednesday.
