Mounties Come Up Just Short in 1-0 Setback To West ChesterMANSFIELD – An injury-plagued Mansfield University women's soccer team gave West Chester all it could handle in a tight 1-0 setback Wednesday afternoon at the Soccer Field.
The two team battled tenaciously throughout the first 45 minutes of play with the first half ending in a 0-0 tie.
West Chester, ranked No. 16 in the nation in last week's national poll, finally broke through in the 62
nd minute when Kara Parvel took a pass from Shannon Hoeveler and fired a shot across the goal just inside the right post on a perfect shot to beat goalie Rachael Fox.
It would be the only time Fox was beaten in the game as she recorded nine saves on the day.
Mansfield, which wasn't awarded a corner kick all game, had two chances to tie the score late in the game on a shots by
Delaney Meadows and
Danielle Lentz. Meadows was driving for a potential shot with three seconds remaining but was tripped on the play.
The loss snaps a two game winning streak for the Mountaineers who travel to Slippery Rock on Saturday.
