Mounties Give Strong First Half Effort in 2-0 Loss to IUPMANSFIELD – An improving Mansfield University field hockey team held IUP scoreless for the first 51 minutes of the game before dropping a 2-0 decision in a PSAC matchup Wednesday afternoon at Karl Van Norman Field.
A scrappy Mountaineer defense kept the Crimson Hawks off the scoreboard throughout the first half as well as the first 16 minutes of the second half before Matti Reightler scored the first of her two goals off an assist from Ericka Griffith in the 52
nd minute.
Reightler would strike again 13 minutes this time taking a pass from Brittany Thornton.
The Mountaineers put two shots on goal with
Emily Willard coming close in the first half and
Abbie Predmore putting a shot on goal off a corner early in the second half.
Mansfield goalie
Laura Lawson was again outstanding in the net racking up 15 saves of the day.
Mansfield host Bloomsburg on Saturday.
