Bauder's Grand Slam Lifts Mounties Past ESU

Bauder's Grand Slam Leads Mounties Over East Stroudsburg

MANSFIELD – Senior Courtney Bauder drilled her first collegiate grand slam and Ashley Inman threw a three-hitter to lead Mansfield to a 9-1 win over East Stroudsburg in the opening game of a PSAC East doubleheader at Helen Lutes Field Friday afternoon.

East Stroudsburg won the nightcap 13-1.

The doubleheader was Strike Out Type 1 Diabetes for Sterner Day with Mansfield University freshman Rachael Sterner and her parents throwing out the ceremonial first pitch.

In the opener, Mansfield drew first blood with a pair of runs off a two-run double by freshman Melanie Taylor in bottom of the second.

The Mountaineers added four more runs in the third on Bauder's first collegiate grand slam. Kayla Hahn singled with one out and moved to third on a double by Inman. One out later, Taylor drew a 3-2 walk to load the bases before Bauder lined her first pitch deep over the left field fence to increase the lead to 6-0. It was Bauder's fourth home run of the season and 15th of her career moving her past Sytiva Seitz taking sole possession of fifth place on the school's all-time list.

East Stroudsburg broke up the shutout in the fourth when Mary Wallick hit a one-out single for the Warriors first hit of the day off Inman. Wallick moved up to third on a pair of wild pitches before scoring on a sacrifice by Kasey Meckes.

The Mountaineer got that run back in the bottom of the inning when Laura Lawson reached on a fielder's choice and then stole second before scoring on a single from Hahn making the score 7-1.
Mansfield added a pair of runs in the fifth to end the game early. Bauder singled with two outs and scored on a single from Amanda Goodwin. Goodwin, who moved up to second, then scored on a single by freshman Tyler Chidester.

Mansfield rapped out 10 hits in the game to East Stroudsburg three with Bauder going 3-4 with a home run and four RBI's. Hahn went 2-2. Inman picked up her eighth win of the season scattering three hits and striking out six while walking none. The junior has won three of her last four starts.

Allison Mende took the loss for East Stroudsburg striking out six and walking five.

In the nightcap, East Stroudsburg scored in run in the first inning on an RBI double by Cara McNeil off Mansfield starter Laura Knight.

The Mountaineer tied the game in the bottom of the fourth when Taylor drew a one-out walk, stole second and later scored off a field error.

The score remained knotted until East Stroudsburg scored four runs in the top of the fourth with three of them coming on a three-run home run by Mary Wallick to take a 5-1 lead.

Bauder had three of Mansfield's four hits in the game with Knight being charged with the loss. She was relieved by Chelsey Heatley and Sierra Storm.

Rachael Liguori picked up the win for East Stroudsburg allowing just four hits and striking out seven.
