Mansfield Softball Honors Courtney Bauder on Senior Day – Mounties Drop Doubleheader to Shippensburg

Courtney Bauder (Jersey Shore/Jersey Shore) was honored during pregame ceremonies and
Laura Lawson and
Melanie Taylor both hit home runs but it wouldn't be enough as Mansfield dropped both ends of a PSAC East doubleheader to Shippensburg Saturday afternoon at Helen Lutes Field.
Bauder, who ranks among the career leaders in virtually every career offensive category for the Mountaineers ranking second on the career list in extra-base hits (70) and doubles (47) while ranking third in games played (153), hits (165) and triples (8). She ranks fifth in home runs (15).
Mansfield fell victim to a no-hitter by Shippensburg's Liz Parkins in the opener. Parkins did not allow a hit over five innings while striking out six.
The Raiders scored six runs over the final two innings to break up a 5-5 tie on their way to a 11-5 win in game two.
In the nightcap, both team battled back and forth for the lead. Shippensburg plated a run in the top of the first on a run-scoring single by Tyler Thompson. Mansfield loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning but couldn't push a run across.
Mansfield tied the game when Lawson took a 1-1 pitch over the fence in left field to lead off the second inning and the Mountaineers would add another run and take a 2-1 lead when
Taylor Chidester's delivered an RBI single with two outs scoring
Kayla Allen who had singled earlier in the inning.
Shippensburg retook the lead in its next at-bat scoring three runs on a three-run home run by Briana Giovenco for a 4-2 lead.
Mansfield cut the lead to 4-3 in the bottom of the fourth when Chidester doubled to drive in Bauder who opened the inning with a single.
Shippensburg went up 5-3 in the top of the fifth on an RBI single by Maddie Justice but Mansfield scored twice in the bottom half on the inning on a two-run home run by
Melanie Taylor to knot the game up at 5-5.
Shippensburg would score six runs over the final two innings, including five of them in the sixth, to put the game out of reach.
Chidester went 3-4 with a double and two RBI's while Taylor had two RBI's in hitting her first collegiate home run.
Laura Knight went the first 5.1 innings to take the loss.
Justice went 4-4 for Shippensburg with three RBI's. Makenzie Lynn picked up the win in relief.
Mansfield will host Bloomsburg in a season finale Sunday starting at 1 p.m. at Helen Lutes Field.
