FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Rockwell's Walkoff Puts Mansfield Past ESU
EAST STROUDSBURG –
Scott Rockwell's walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh pushed home the game-winning run as Mansfield took down East Stroudsburg 6-5 in the opener Saturday afternoon at Mitterling Field. The Mounties fell 19-12 in game two.
East Stroudsburg opened game one with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning. Mansfield scored a run in the bottom of the frame when
Anthony Renz's RBI double plated
Westyn Baylor.
The Warriors pushed two more runs across in the fourth to take a 4-1 lead.
In the bottom of the fifth, lead-off singles by
Taylor Hillson and
Eric Schanzenbacher put runners at first and second before Baylor drove in a run with an RBI single. An error by the shortstop allowed Renz to reach and Schanzenbacher to score. A
Dave Glueck RBI single brought home Baylor to tie the game at 4-4.
In the top of the seventh, ESU's
Dylan Tamecki drove in the go-ahead run to put the Warriors on top 5-4.
Mansfield opened the bottom half of the inning with a Baylor walk and a Renz single before pinch hitter
Zephan Kash knotted the game at five runs apiece with an RBI double to bring home Baylor. Renz was called out at the plate.
Jacob Molison was intentionally walked to fill the open base at first before a passed ball moved both runners into scoring position.
Dave Glueck was also walked intentionally to load the bases. Facing one out, Rockwell drove in the game-winning run with an RBI single to lift Mansfield to the PSAC East victory.
Zach Sacoman earned the win in relief for Mansfield, pitching the final two outs.
Alec Covel made the start on the mound going 3.2 innings with four earned runs and six strikeouts. Tyler Eckman took the loss for ESU.
In game two, the Warriors were first to get on the board again, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. ESU plated two more runs in the third and then hung six runs in the fourth to jump out to an 11-0 lead.
Mansfield got on the board in the bottom of the fourth with Glueck driving in a pair of runs with a double before Molison added another to cut the deficit to 11-3.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Mounties plated four runs on two hits and two errors.
East Stroudsburg extended its lead in the top of the sixth, scoring four runs to lead 15-7.
Baylor opened the bottom half of the inning with a solo home run before Molison hit a three-run homer to close within three runs.
Mansfield would pull no closer as ESU held on for the game two win.
Tamecki went 4-for-5 at the plate, hitting for the cycle, while adding five RBIs and three runs.
Andrew Furbur earned the win for ESU with
Dan Harms taking the loss.
The Mountaineers travel to Bloomsburg for a doubleheader on Monday.
