WIMINGTON, Del. – Senior
Courtney Bauder went 4-8 from the plate and
Ashley Inman picked up her fourth win of the season as Mansfield went 1-0-1 at Goldey-Beacom in softball action Wednesday afternoon.
Mansfield won the opener 8-2 behind Inman's complete game win but the nightcap ended in a 3-3 tie when the game was called because of darkness.

In the opener, the Mounties gave up one unearned run in the first inning, but they tied up the score in the top of the third as Bauder scored on a two-out
Amanda Goodwin single.
Â
Goldey-Beacom (0-7-1, 0-4-0 CACC) came knocking on a single from Kelsey Brandle in the bottom of the third, but the Lightning grounded into a double play to end the third inning.

Kaitlyn Hewitt led off the top of the fourth with a single and was advanced to second on a groundout. The junior scored the go-ahead run on a Lightning fielding error to put Mansfield (5-5-1, 0-2-0 PSAC) up 2-1.

The Mountaineers added to their lead In the top of the fifth when
Laura Lawson got on base with a lead-off single up the middle. The sophomore advanced to second on single by Bauder. With two outs on the board, Lawson and Bauder both scored on a throwing error to put the Mounties up 4-1 going into the bottom of the fifth.

The story of Mansfield's lead-off hitters continued as
Taylor Chidester hit her third double of the season to start the sixth inning. The freshman went on to score off a
Hannah Secord double to centerfield. With runners on the corners and one out, Lawson stole second and Secord scored on a throwing error to put Mansfield up 6-1.

Goldey-Beacom responded to Mansfield's 6-0 run as they put Brandle across the plate on a sacrifice fly to make the cut the lead to 6-2 going into the seventh inning.

Inman singled to right field to start things off for Mansfield in the top of the seventh.
Nikki Watkins came in to pinch run for Inman, and the junior advanced to third on two wild pitches. With runners on third and first, Secord drilled an RBI single to right center to bring Watkins home and advance Chidester to third. Lawson kept the rally going as the sophomore drove Chidester home on a single to third base to put Mansfield up 8-2.

Inman (4-2) garnered the win for the Mounties with another excellent performance. The junior gave up one earned run on five hits with three strikeouts. Natalie Mickles (0-4) picked up the loss for Goldey-Beacom.

Secord (2-4, two RBI's, one run), Chidester (2-3, two runs), Bauder (2-5, two runs) and Lawson (2-3, one RBI, one run) led Mansfield at the plate.

Bauder led off the nightcap with a triple to right center and scored on a double by Goodwin to put Mansfield on the board early. After advancing on a wild pitch, Goodwin scored on a
Megan Miller single to put the Mountaineers up 2-0.
Kayla Hahn later singled to drive in the third run of the inning.

The Lightning rallied in the bottom of the second to score two unearned runs to make it a 3-2 game after one inning of play.

Over the next three innings, Bauder, Chidester and
Melanie Taylor were all in scoring position, but were left stranded to keep the score 3-2 going into the bottom of the fourth inning.

Goldey-Beacom's Brandle singled through the left side to bring Jordan Donovan home and tie the score 3-3 in the bottom of the fourth.

In the top of the fifth, the Mounties had Chidester on second and Secord on first, but Mansfield was able to bring them across the plate.

With the bases loaded and two outs, Secord had a heads-up play at catcher as the sophomore picked off Natalie Mickles at second to end the inning.

Due to darkness, the game was called after the fifth inning and ended in a 3-3 tie. This is Mansfield's first tie in ten years when they tied East Stroudsburg 3-3 on March 31, 2005.

Chelsey Heatley went the distance in the circle striking out three and allowing just one unearned run in five innings of work.
Mansfield was led at the plate by Goodwin (1-3, one RBI, one run) and Bauder (2-3, one run).

After today's double header, Bauder moved into fifth place for all-time Mansfield career runs with 97. In doing so, the senior passed softball standout Sytiva Seitz (2003-06) who had 95.
