LYONS STATION, Pa. – Kutztown scored the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the eighth to spoil a shutout effort by Mansfield's
Ashley Inman to edge the Mountaineers 1-0 in the opener of a PSAC East doubleheader Sunday afternoon. The Golden Bears took the nightcap 6-1.
Inman locked up in pitching dual with Dominique Ficara in the opener that went into extra innings. The junior righthander kept Kutztown off the board with a clutch performance, pitching her way out of trouble in the second, fourth, fifth and sixth innings. Inman struck out three and issued just one walk while getting 16 Golden Bears to ground out.

Taylor Chidester, who extended her hitting-streak to four games, stroked the first hit of game one as the freshman singled to centerfield but was left stranded going into the bottom of the first.

With two outs in the bottom of the second, Kutztown (16-4-0, 4-0-0 PSAC) had runners on the corners, but Mansfield (5-7-1, 0-4-0 PSAC) caught Melissa Albe in a pickle at the plate to end the inning.

Mansfield's
Laura Lawson drew a walk in the top of the third, but couldn't reach home as the score remained 0-0.

Both sides remained scoreless over the next four innings forcing extra innings.

With runners on second and third with two outs, Colleen Smith hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth to secure the 1-0 win for Kutztown.

Ficara (5-2) picked up the win for Kutztown while Inman (4-3)Â took the loss.
Â
In game two, Kutztown went up 1-0 after one inning of play on a Smith fly-out to left field.

The Mounties came knocking in the top of the second with
Megan Miller on third and
Morgan Boyce on first, but both runners were left stranded going into the bottom of the inning.

The Golden Bears added a second run in the bottom of the third to go up 2-0.

With
Rachael Sterner on first, Boyce broke Mansfield's hitless streak in the top of the fourth as the freshman singled to right field, but both runners were left on base.

Over the next two innings, Kutztown added four runs to go up 6-0 going into the top of the sixth.

Chidester led off the top of the sixth with a single to left field, and was advanced to second on a Miller single. With two outs on the board,
Koryn Wickwire singled to right field to drive Chidester home and bring the score to 6-1.

Courtney Bauder hit a double to left field in the top of the seventh, but was stranded as Kutztown went on to win 6-1.

Savannah Nierintz (11-0) was credited with the win for the Golden Bears.
Chelsey Heatley (0-3) picked up the loss for Mansfield.

Mansfield was led at the plate by Wickwire (1-1, one RBI) and Chidester (1-3, one run).

Mansfield's home opener is set to be played Mar. 31 against Millersville at 2:30 p.m.
