Mansfield Drops Two to #21 West Chester

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mansfield Drops Two at #21 West Chester

WEST CHESTER – Courtney Bauder had her tenth hit of the season, but Mansfield came up short as West Chester swept a doubleheader in PSAC East action Thursday afternoon.

In Game 1, both Mansfield (4-5, 0-2 PSAC) and West Chester (12-6, 2-0 PSAC) were held hitless in the first inning.

In the top of the second, Mansfield's Kaitlyn Hewitt drew the first walk of the game, but the game remained scoreless going into the bottom of the inning.

West Chester's bats got hot over the next two innings scoring 11 runs while the Mountaineers struggled to get their offense untracked.

Mansfield's best offensive chance came in the top of the fourth when Megan Miller drew her fourth walk of the season with two outs on the board. Miller moved to third and Kayla Allen reached first on a West Chester error. However, both runners were left stranded on a groundout to shortstop Sarah Derstine.

In the bottom of the fourth, West Chester added three insurance runs to put the Rams up 14-0.

Hannah Secord ended Amanda Houck's no-hitter in the top of the fifth on a one out single through the left side, but Mansfield couldn't rally as the game ended 14-0 after five innings.

Ashley Inman (3-2) picked up the loss for Mansfield and Houck (5-1) was credited with the win for West Chester.

In Game 2, West Chester got the bat going early as they went up 5-0 on six hits and one error after two innings.

Morgan Boyce got on base early in the top of the third as the freshman was hit by a Brooke Harner pitch. Boyce advanced to second on a two out Bauder single to center field. Amanda Goodwin drove Boyce home on a double to left center to put Mansfield on the board.

With a 5-1 score going into the bottom of the third, the Golden Rams responded over the next two innings with seven more runs on six hits and two errors to increase their lead to 12-1.

Chelsey Heatley (0-2) picked up the loss for Mansfield and Harner (4-5) went the distance to pick up the win for West Chester.
