MANSFIELD – Katie Fitzpatrick and Brielle Kelly combined for 38 points, but a hot-shooting Millersville edged out Mansfield Wednesday night in PSAC East play at First Citizens Community Bank Court at Decker Gymnasium.
 
Millersville (11-11, 8-9 PSAC) took an early lead and led 10-6 just over five minutes into the game, but Mansfield went on a 7-0 run to take a 13-10 advantage. The Mountaineers extended their lead to 20-15 with 9:41 to play in the half, but a run by the Marauders tied the game.
 
After a back-and-forth that featured four lead changes and two ties over the next two-and-a-half minutes, Millersville took control of the lead and went into the halftime leading 42-34.
 
In the second half, the Marauders continued to build their lead, holding a 50-36 advantage at the 17:29 mark. Mansfield trailed by double digits for much of the next nine minutes until going on a 7-2 run to close within 61-56 with 8:11 to play in the game.
 
With 4:17 remaining, Mansfield trailed by just four points at 68-64, but would pull no closer.
 
Fitzpatrick led all scorers with 21 points and added five boards, five steals and three assists. Kelly matched her career high of 17 points, connecting on 13-of-16 free throw attempts. The reigning PSAC East and ECAC Division II Freshman of the Week also grabbed nine rebounds.
 
Becky Evans recorded 11 points while Tianna Jackson added 10. Alyssa DeRichie dished out a team-best four assists.
 
Yasmin Cooper and Alayah Hall paced Millersville with 16 points each. Shelby Reimer and Tyisha White each added 10 points. Alexis Martin grabbed a game-high 11 boards.
 
Millersville shot a red-hot 64.3% (18-28) from the floor in the first half and hit 54.4% (31-57) of attempts for the game. Mansfield was limited to a 37.0% (20-54) field goal percentage for the game.
 
Mansfield committed just 14 turnovers, its lowest total in six games.
 
The Mountaineers travel to Lock Haven on Saturday.
