Clarion Outlast Mounties Behind Big Third QuarterMANSFIELD –
Brielle Kelly recorded a double-double but Clarion used a big third quarter to outlast Mansfield 75-64 in a PSAC contest Friday night.
Mansfield trailed 28-24 at halftime but Clarion outscored the Mountaineers 22-14 in the third quarter and held off a torrid late fourth quarter rally cutting the score to 69-63 on a 3-pointer by
Becky Evans with just under a minute to plan.
Mansfield shot just 27% from the floor to Clarion's 37% but the Mountaineers held a 52-40 advantage in rebounds.
Kelly had her first double-double of the season scoring 19 points while pulling down a game-high 11 rebounds.
Melanie Taylor scored a season-high 12 points with nine of them coming on 3-pointers. Evans added 10 points.
Princella McCullough just missed a double-double with 8 points and 12 rebounds.
Clarion got 49 points from its bench including 26 from Stevie Ray.
Mansfield host Clarion Saturday afternoon.
