FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mounties Register Seven First Place Finishes in Indoor Season Debut
HOUGHTON, N.Y. – Mountaineer track & field registered seven first place finishes in its indoor season opener at Houghton's December Classic on Friday.
Charlsie Bowen turned in a pair of first place marks winning both the pole vault and the 60m hurdles. The sophomore recorded a top height of 3.30 meters in the pole vault and hit a personal best in the 60 hurdles at 9.56.
Junior Katy Haywood finished second in the pole vault with her mark of 3.05 meters.
Mansfield took first and second in the 300 meter dash with
Melanie Hartley winning at 44.67 and
Breondra Myers right behind her at 45.27.
Savannah Buckley finished fourth with her time of 45.75. Buckey easily won the 60 meter dash at 8.21.
Mansfield dominated the throws with
Rachel Hohenwarter and
Kelsey Carlsen finishing 1-2 in the shot put. Hohenwarter won with a top distance of 10.46 meters while Carlsen's throw of 9.80 meters was good for second.
Maryann Personius took fifth with her personal best throw of 7.59 meters. Personius won the weight throw with her mark of 10.98 meters.
On the men's side,
Kyle Blose won the shot put with his throw of 13.22 meters. Blose also took second in the weight throw with a personal best heave of 11.60 meters.
Nicolas Auchenbach finished second in the 600 meter run at 1:29.11 and took third in the 300 meter dash at 38.11.
Andrew Zabala was third in the long jump with his best attempt of 5.63 meters.
The Mountaineers are off until the Penn State Nittany Challenge on Jan. 16.
