Mansfield Gets Offensive in 3-1 Win Over UPJMANSFIELD – Mansfield got goals from
Brielle Filtch, Nicole Wynn and
Danielle Lentz to record a 3-1 win over Pitt-Johnstown in a PSAC contest under the lights at Karl Van Norman Field Wednesday night.
Pitt-Johnstown actually drew first blood when Maura Koshute lofted a shot from 20 yards out over the head of Mansfield goalie
Alana Greenawalt in the 11th minute.
Mansfield, which held a commanding 10-3 advantage in shots-on-goal in the first half, tied the game 12 minutes later when Filtch took a pass from
Kelsey Chapman on the left side of the net and beat the goal with a shot on the right side.
The Mountaineers scored what would prove to be the winning goal when freshman Nicole Wynn took a deflected ball from five yards out and put it into the left center of the net for her first collegiate goal.
Mansfield took a 2-1 lead into halftime and added to that advantage in the 55th minute when sophomore
Danielle Lentz took a give-and-go pass from Chapman an popped it in the right side of the goal from 10 yards out.
Pitt-Johnstown had an excellent scoring opportunity in the waning minutes when the goalie was out of the box but defender
Nicole Semenza moved back into the crease and blocked what would have been a sure goal.
Mansfield got off a season high 34 shots in the game including 17 of them on goal to UPJ's 11 shots.
Greenawalt went the distance in goal for the Mountaineers stopping five shots. Leeann Gorman recorded 14 saves for UPJ.
The victory was Mansfield's second win in the last three games to improve to 2-5.
Mansfield travels to Seton Hill this Saturday.
