Fouls and Free Throws Hurt Mansfield in Loss at Seton HillGREENSBURG – Seton Hill hit four free throws in the final 21 seconds to edge Mansfield 62-57 in a PSAC crossover contest Wednesday night.
Fouls and free throws proved to be a nemesis for MU throughout the game with three of the Mountaineers starters,
Charles Pemberton,
Ralik Wise and
Andreas Katopodis, picking up three foul before halftime.
Wise would foul out of the game out of the game and Pemberton and Katopodis would each pick up their fourth fouls midway through the second half.
Mansfield trailed 31-30 at halftime and was down 52-51 with just under four minutes to play. The Mountaineers fell behind 56-52 less than a minute later.
Pemberton, who picked up his fourth foul eight minutes into the second half and sat out the 10 minutes before reentering the game, hit two free throws at the 2:41 mark to close to 56-54. One minute later, Mansfield tied the score at 56-56 when Katopodis hit two free throws on technical foul.
Stanojevic, who drew the technical foul for Seton Hill, missed two free throws but hit a layup with 46 seconds remaining to take a 58-56 lead.
Pemberton was fouled with 25 second left and rimmed out the first throw before hitting the second to pull to one point at 58-57.
Damjan Sredanovic was fouled four seconds later hitting both free throws to put Seton Hill up 60-57.
Mansfield's Katopodis hit the front end of the rim on an attempted game-tying 3-pointer with four second left and Sredanovic hit two more free throws with a second remaining to ice the game.
The game, which featured 12 ties and seven lead changes, was decided at the free throw line with Mansfield making 12-of-22 attempts to Seton Hill's 22-of-27 performance.
Wise recorded a double-double with 16 points and a game-high 11 rebounds with
Joe Bell scoring 13 points for Mansfield.
Kameron Taylor led Seton Hill with a game-high 18 points.
Mansfield host California in a PSAC crossover game this Saturday afternoon.
