Mounties Battle to 2-2 Tie in 2OT

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mounties Battle Lock Haven to 2-2 tie in 2OT

LOCK HAVEN – Casey Reber scored her first goal of the season and Brielle Filtch recorded her second goal of the year but Lock Haven scored late in regulation to tie the game and then held off two Mansfield overtime scoring opportunities in a 2-2 tie in 2OT in a PSAC contest Wednesday night.

Mansfield drew first blood when freshman Brielle Filtch took a pass from Kelsey Chapman and sent a low liner inside the post during the 26th minute of play.

The Mountaineers increased their advantage to 2-0 six minutes later when sophomore Casey Reber drilled a shot inside the far post off a loose ball in the box.

Lock Haven cut the lead to 2-1 with a little over two minutes remaining in the first half when Haylea Myers ran onto a pass from Jamie Hunter in the box and redirected past the goalie.

Mansfield held that lead through halftime and for the first 38 minutes of the second half and looked in control late in the game getting off a pair of shots, the first by Nicole Semenza in the 73rd minute and another by Nikki Ortiz in the 82nd minute. But 40 seconds later, Lock Haven's Brigitte Breault got an assist from Jamie Hunter and placed a shot off the inside of the far post to knot the score 2-2 in the 83rd minute.

Both teams exchanged scoring opportunities over the final five minutes of regulation. Mansfield had a shot by Filtch go wide with five minutes to remaining before Mountaineer goalie Alana Greenwalt stopping a header by Lock Haven's Erin McGrenaghan two minutes later sending the contest into overtime.

Mansfield's Danielle Lentz's shot in overtime was denied by LHU goalie Morgan Euston just under three minutes into overtime. Mansfield Bri Carr came close to ending it in the 98th minute lifting a ball over the top of the net just before the contest went into double overtime.

Lock Haven failed to get a shot off in either of the overtime periods.

The game was statistically evenly played with both teams getting off five shots on goal and each goalie credited with three saves. Both team had four corners.

Mansfield returns home this Saturday evening when the Mountaineers host Bloomsburg in Cancer Awareness Night.
