Bloom Outlast Mounties 1-0 on Cancer Awareness NightMANSFIELD – Bloomsburg's Megan Carroll scored off a corner-kick in the 71st minute and the Huskies held off two late Mansfield scoring chances to edge the Mountaineers 1-0 in a PSAC women's soccer contest Saturday night.
The game, played before a large Cancer Awareness Night crowd, was a defense battle for much of the evening.
After a scoreless first half that featured three shots on goal by Bloomsburg to Mansfield's two, the Huskies finally broke the deadlock in the 71st minute when Carroll got a foot on a ball that first went off teammate Taylor Gerstenfield in a scrum in front of the net.
Mansfield had two late opportunities to attempt to tie the score when
Brielle Filtch put a shot on goal in the 84th minute. Filtch also got lose and went one-on-one with a defender just outside the box as time expired.
Alana Greenawalt had a solid performance in goal for the Mountaineers with six saves on the night.
Mansfield travels to Daemen College in the Mountaineers only non-conference game of the season on Tuesday.
