FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mansfield Keeps Pressure on Mercyhurst, but Falls 4-1

MANSFIELD – The Mountaineers kept the offensive pressure on all game, but Kelsey Lovelace notched a pair of goals to lead Mercyhurst past Mansfield 4-1 Tuesday afternoon at Karl Van Norman Field.

Mercyhurst (8-7, 6-5 PSAC) got on the board in the 10
th minute on Marissa Faso's score via an Emily Burns pass to take a 1-0 lead. The goal was Faso's 11
th of the season.

Mountie netminder
Laura Lawson made seven saves in the half, including two huge denials on penalty swipe attempts, to keep it a one-goal game.

Mansfield (2-13, 2-10 PSAC) had an incredible 13 penalty corner attempts and put 11 of 16 shots on goal in the half, but Laker keeper Jess Wess kept the Mounties off the scoreboard.

In the second half, Lovelace scored back-to-back goals in the 52
nd and 60
th minutes to extend the Mercyhurst leads to 3-0. Alexandra Albright added another goal in the 61
st minute. Cayla Slade assisted on the final two goals for the Lakers.

In the waning minutes of the game,
Courtney Wilson beat the goalie to the right side on a pass from
Kayla Grunza to put Mansfield on the board. It was Wilson's second score and Grunza's third assist of the season.

Mercyhurst held a slight shots advantage at 29-28 while Mansfield led in penalty corners 15-10.
Â
Grunza peppered the Laker goal with 11 total shots and eight shots on goal.
Jessi Swingle totaled four shots on goal while
Lacey Croasdale added three.

Katie Lipski and
Nikita Grove were each credited with defensive saves for the Mounties.

Lawson finished the game with 17 total saves in goal.

Mansfield travels to West Chester on Saturday.
