FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mounties Open Season-Ending Three Game Home Stand against California on Wednesday

MANSFIELD – The Mansfield University women's soccer team will wrap-up the 2014 schedule with a three-game home stand starting with California this Wednesday afternoon.

It will be a stiff challenge for the Mountaineers with all three visiting team currently ranked third, fourth and fifth in the 17-team PSAC standings. The three schools have a combined record of 29-8-3.

Wednesday's contest features a 4 p.m. starting time at the Soccer Field and will be broadcast live by ESPN Radio Williamsport with links for the audio broadcast and live stats available at GoMounties.com.

The Mountaineers are 1-1-2 in the last four games after dropping a 6-3 decision at Edinboro last Saturday. Freshman Nicole Wynne scored two goals with senior defender Sara Weaver adding the first goal of her collegiate career.

Despite the loss, the three goal outburst ties the most goals scored in a game this season for the Mountaineers who will hope to used that momentum to jump start an offense that has struggled at times, ranking 13th in the PSAC in points (31) and goals (14).

Mansfield's leading scorers this far this season have both been freshmen in Brielle Filtch and Nicole Wynne with three goals each. Junior speedster Kelsey Chapman has a goal and three assist and is just one goal shy of establishing a new school career mark of nine assists.

A total of nine Mountaineer players have scored goals on the year.

Goalie Alana Greenawalt will go down as one of the top defenders in school history. The senior is sixth in saves per game in the PSAC this season averaging 5.21 per game.  Over a four-year span, Greenawalt has stopped 209 shots, fourth best in school history.
