FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mounties Post Five Season PR's but Fall to Kutztown
Kutztown, Pa. – Four different Mountaineers were able to post season PR's, but the Golden Bears of Kutztown proved to be too much as Mansfield fell 113-76.
Abigail Zdancewicz and
Connie Medura led the Mounties with first and fourth place finishes. Zdancewicz set a season PR in her first place finish in the 500 freestyle. With a time of 5:44.83, the sophomore swam 5.44 seconds faster than her previous time. Zdancewicz went on to finish fourth in the 200 freestyle with a 2:12.10, just 1.12 behind Kutztown's third place finisher, Gabrielle Louden. Medura garnered a first place finish in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:13.46, a season best by 1.65 seconds. The sophomore rounded out her individual events with a 4
th place finish in the 200 IM with a 2:32.23.
Junior
Hilary Feudale, Mansfield's backstroke specialist, finished second in the 100 backstroke with a 1:06.36.
Freshman
Alicia Patterson also came up with a second place finish in the 100 breaststoke with a 1:27.58.
Amanda Ernst placed second in the 200 IM with a 2:27.77. The freshman went on to finish fourth in the 100 butterfly with a 1:07.53.
Freshman
Alexis Cable came up with two third place finishes for the Mountaineers. Cable swam the 50 freestyle in 27.25 seconds, just .34 seconds behind Kutztown's second place finisher, Rachael Burke. The freshman went on to swim a 59.94 in the 100 freestyle.
Lauren Dorosh provided support in three different individual events for the Mounties. The senior finished second in the 500 freestyle with a 6:30.55. Dorosh went on to set a season PR in her fourth place finish in the 1000 freestyle. With a time of 13:06.84, the senior beat her previous time by a whopping 11.57 seconds. Dorosh rounded out her events with a 30.58 fifth place finish in the 50 freestyle.
Noelle Erickson and
Carolyn Mercatanti each provided Mansfield with third and fifth place finishes. Erickson finished third in the 1000 freestyle with a 12:15.52. The freshman went on to finish fifth in the 100 butterfly with a 1:14.05. Mercatanti came in third in the 500 freestyle with a 6:39.95. The sophomore provided points for the Mounties with a 13:47.10 fifth place finish in the 1000 freestyle.
Sophomore
Doni Matrone had a big day with two season PR's. Matrone finished fourth in the 100 freestyle with a 1:01.43. It proved to be 1.70 seconds better than her previous time. She went on to finish fifth in the 200 freestyle with a 2:19.68, .48 seconds better than her previous time.
Stefanie Hile provided additional points for Mansfield with a 1:13.24 fifth place finish in the 100 backstroke.
The relay team of Feudale, Erickson, Matrone and Zdancewicz finished first in the 200 freestyle relay with a 1:52.89. Rounding out relay events, the team of Feudale, Medura, Ernst and Cable placed second in the 200 medley relay with a 1:59.56.
Mansfield is currently 1-1 on the season.
The Mounties are set to take on Penn State Altoona on Oct. 20 at 6:00 p.m. in Huntingdon, Pa.
