FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Ernst Qualifies for PSAC's as Mounties Defeat Division I Howard on Senior Day
MANSFIELD, Pa. – Freshman
Amanda Ernst qualified for the PSAC Championship meet in the 100 butterfly as Mansfield defeated Division I Howard by a score of 112-86. Prior to the meet, senior
Lauren Dorosh was honored by her teammates and coaches for four years of dedicated work to Mansfield.
Ernst's 100 buterfly time was 1:01.87. The freshman is the first Mountaineer to qualify for the PSAC meet since
Megan Becker in Nov. 2013. Ernst was .58 seconds away from breaking a 15-year-old school record set by Stephanie Klegarth. She was also .40 seconds away from breaking a 14-year-old freshman record. Rounding out the 100 butterfly for Mansfield was freshman
Alicia Patterson with a 1:16.22.
Candace Brown recorded a dual-first finish in the 100 and 200 freestyle. The freshman swam a 57.41 in the 100 and a 2:07.78 in the 200.
Alexis Cable added to Brown's first place finish in the 100 freestlyle by placing second with a 58.85. Adding points in the event was
Doni Matrone with a 1:03.13.
Placing third in the 200 freestyle was freshman
Noelle Erickson with a 2:15.31. Matrone finished with a 2:20.16.
In the 50 freestyle, Cable placed first with a 26.80. Finishing behind the sophomore was junior transfer
Hilary Feudale with a 27.81 and Dorosh with a 30.09.
Feudale finished in first in the 100 backstroke with a 1:03.92. Adding points to the Mountaineer total was
Sarah Lamphere with a 1:11.60 and
Stefanie Hile with a 1:12.56.
In the 500 freestyle, Mansfield finished 1-2-3.
Abigail Zdancewicz, the school record holder in the event, finished first with a 5:50.27. Finishing second was Erickson with a 5:58.50. In third,
Carolyn Mercatanti finished with a 6:36.75.
Sophomore
Connie Medura and Ernst finished 1-2 in the 100 breaststroke. Medura finished with a 1:15.11 while Ernst finished 2.41 seconds later with a 1:17.52.
In the 1000 freestyle, Zdancewicz finished second with a 12:03.38. Also putting point on the board for Mansfield were Dorosh with a 13:18.41 and Mercatanti with a 13:31.09.
Rounding out the individual events for the Mounties, Medura placed second in the 200 IM with a 2:33.22. Finishing behind Medura in third place was Patterson with a 2:47.53.
The Mounties scored points in the 200 medley relay as the team of Feudale, Medura, Brown and Cable finished second with a time of 1:58.30. Finishing behind them was the team of Hile, Patterson, Lamphere, and
Samantha Masher.
In the 200 freestyle, the final event of the day, the Mounties held on as the team of Erickson, Zdancewicz, Matrone and Ernst finished third with a 1:51.14.
The win over Howard puts the Mounties at 1-0 on the season.
Mansfield is set to travel to Kutztown for their next meet on Oct. 18. Events are scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
