Robinson Breaks PSAC Record in 1,000m Run -- Jess Scordino Wins 3000
ITHACA, N.Y. –
Mike Robinson set a school and PSAC record in the men's 1,000m run with a time of 2:26.51 and
Jess Scordino won the 3000 meters with an NCAA provisional qualifying time to lead Mansfield University track and field team to strong showing at Cornell's Southern Tier Collegiate Open Friday night at Barton Hall.
With his performance, Robinson becomes the first Mountaineer runner to hold a PSAC individual record.
Robinson's mark broke IUP's Sean Strauman's time of 2:28.87 set during the 2008 indoor season. The senior shattered the Mansfield all-time record of 2:30.1 set by Dave Sanford in 2007.
Scordino posted a winning time of 10:09.23 in the 3000 meters, finishing more than two seconds ahead of her nearest competitor.
In addition to Robinson's outstanding showing in the 1000, feammates
Joelsen Resimo, Jacob Portock and Benjamin Drexler finished fourth (2:37.05), fifth (2:37.43) and ninth (2:43.58) respectively.
Freshman
Melissa Cruz posted an impressive third-place showing in the women's 1000 meters with a time of 3:04.81 with senior
Kristy Scordino finishing 9th (3:11.50).
Freshman
Michaela Lambert also had an impressive outing finishing 5th in the 400 meters with a time of 1:00.83 and 6th in the 200 meters at 21.66.
Also posting top 10 finishes where sophomore
Kelsey Carlsen who took 3rd in the shot put with a heave of 35-00.50 with
Alexandra Mahaffey finishing 8th (32-00.0). Sophomore
Tracey La France finished 8th in the men's shot put with a mark of 40-06.00.
Latimere Campbell took 6th in the 200 meters with a time of 23.03 with
Michael Hillary taking 10th (26.76).
