MANSFIELD – Joe Bell scored a team-high 19 points, but it wouldn't be enough as Mansfield dropped an 86-72 decision to visiting West Chester Wednesday night at Decker Gymnasium.

Bell was 8-for-16 from the field on the way to his ninth straight game in double-figure scoring.

Junior Onyema Utti netted 10 points on the night while senior Chuck Harper added nine points. Freshman Kenny Johnson and junior Charles Becoats each chipped in eight points.

West Chester's Jaleel Mack posted a game-high 20 points. Mack sunk six field goals and was seven of eight from the free throw line. Corey Blake scored 14 points with Shannon Givens adding 10 points.

The Golden Rams jumped out to a 6-0 lead after hitting three straight field goals before holding a 16-8 lead at the 13:11 mark. Mansfield stormed back to tie the game on two made Johnson free throws with Bell hitting two more to give the Mounties a 25-23 lead with just over five minute remaining in the half.

West Chester regained their lead to hold a 42-34 advantage at halftime.

Harper's made 3-pointer and jumper to open the second half brought Mansfield within three points, but the Rams went on an 11-0 run to jump out to a 53-39 lead.

West Chester held a 20-point lead with 13 minutes to play, but the Mountaineers went on a big 18-7 run to close within nine points with less than seven minutes remaining. However, West Chester was able to maintain their lead and came away with a win on the road.

The Rams held a 40-30 rebounding advantage in the contest. Mansfield surrendered 24 turnovers while West Chester was limited to 16.

The Mountaineers host Shippensburg at Decker Gymnasium this Saturday for a 3:00 p.m. tip.
