Lopes heads a field of 16 Mountaineers into PSAC Indoor Championship this weekend
MANSFIELD – Sophomore sensation
Olivia Lopes will head a group of 16 Mansfield University men's and women's indoor track performers at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Indoor Track & Field Championship held at Edinboro University this Saturday and Sunday.
Lopes, who finished 9th in the 60 meters and 10th in the 200 meters at the PSAC Indoor Championship as a freshman last year, has the fastest time (along with Danielle Smith of East Stroudsburg) in the 60 meters this season in the PSAC at 7.75. She has also posted the second fastest time in the conference this season in the 200 meters (58.64) as well as the fourth best time in the 400 (58.64).
Junior
Savannah Boucher also has a good chance to medal after posting the ninth fastest time in the PSAC in the mile coming into the championship (5:10.10) along with the 10th best time in the 3000 meters (10:20.03).
Sophomore
Jesse Jones is one of the top hopes for the men's team, entering the championship with the seventh best time in the PSAC in the 5000 meters (15:13.32) this season.
Other members of the women's team that posted qualifying times for the championship are
Alexa Tsiknas in the pole vault. Tsiknas finished second in the PSAC Championship in 2011 and advanced to the NCAA National Championship in 2011.
Freshman
Madisen Slagle qualified in the 60 meter hurdles as did fellow freswhman
Allison Macon in the 400 meters. Senior
Kait Chegwidden will compete in the 5000 meters and
Jenna Hoefer in the weight throw.
On the men's side,
Yaw Boateng earned a spot in the 60 meters with freshman
Latimere Campbell competing in the 400 meters along with sophomore Bobby McCoy.
Freshman
Jordan Boothe will run in the 800 meters with fellow freshman Jeyson Jones posed to run the 200 meters.
Junior
Will Mullen will run the mile with teammate
Jake Shedden qualifying in the 3000 and 5000 meters. Junior Tyler Saverese is entered in the pole vault.
