FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Cheyney too much for Mountaineer men, 83-66

MANSFIELD - Charles Becoats hit four 3-pointers on his way to leading four Mountaineers in double-figure scoring, but it wouldn't be enough as the Mansfield University men's basketball team fell 83-66 to visiting Cheyney University Saturday afternoon at Decker Gymnasium.

Becoats connected on 4-of-9 treys to pace the Mounties with 17 points. Chuck Harper netted 12 points while Kevonte McClain and Joe Bell each added 10 points each.

Cheyney's Rashaad Slappy hit 8-of-12 from the floor to score a game-high 20 points. Slappy also added six steals, six rebounds, and five assists. Jason Saab came off the bench to put up 19 points while Jayvon Beaty and Calvin Brown each chipped in 10 points.

The Wolves hit the first two buckets of the game, but Mansfield came back to lead at 10-9 with 15:42 remaining in the half. Cheyney built their lead back up to nine points at the 8:12 mark in the half, but the Mounties used a 12-4 run to pull within a point with less than five to play.

Cheyney held a 43-39 advantage at halftime.

In the second half, the Wolves led by 10 points at the 16:20 mark. However, the Mountaineers pulled to a two-possession ball-game minutes later. Mansfield trailed by just six points with 5:48 to play, but the Wolves closed out the game on a 14-3 run to secure the win.

The Mountaineers travel to Kutztown on Wednesday, Jan. 30 for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.
