FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Women's soccer host East Stroudsburg in home and PSAC opener Wednesday – Hanging of Kaitlyn “Mic” McBride jersey in pregame ceremonies
MANSFIELD – The Mansfield University women's soccer team will host East Stroudsburg in the Mountaineers home and PSAC opener this Wednesday afternoon starting at 4 p.m. at the Soccer Field.
Prior to the game, Mansfield will mount the framed home game jersey of the late Kaitlyn “Mic” McBride on the outside of the elevated press box overlooking the field. McBride, who would have been a senior playing in her final collegiate season, passed away following an automobile accident in early June at the age of 22. To honor her memory, McBride's name remains on the official team roster and her framed jersey appeared in the center of the team photo.
It will also be schedule poster giveaway day with 2012 team poster schedules given out to the first 50 fans in attendance.
Mansfield opened the 2012 season with a come-from-behind 2-1 win at Goldey-Beacom in Wilmington, DE on Saturday. Senior Erica Moyer scored the Mountaineers first goal to tie the game at 1-1 in the 65th minute before freshman
Karyn Anselmo scored the game-winner from 18-yards out in the final minute of regulation.
It was the Mansfield's first come-from-behind win since the Mountaineers scored two late-game goals – the last scored with seven seconds remaining in regulation play – to beat Shippensburg 2-1 at the Soccer Field in 2008.
East Stroudsburg opened its season with a 1-1 tie at Concord (WV) and 2-1 victory against Tusculum (TN) over the weekend. The Warriors posted an 8-9-1 overall record last season including a 4-9-1 PSAC mark and a 1-0 win over the Mountaineers.
