FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Chapman's overtime goal lifts Mansfield to 3-2 win over regionally-ranked Lock Haven

MANSFIELD -- Freshman Kelsey Chapman placed a shot in the upper right hand corner of the goal 29 seconds into overtime to lift Mansfield to a 3-2 win over Lock Haven in PSAC women's soccer action Saturday.

“I'm very happy for our players,” said head coach Tim Dempsey. “Playing that hard at the end of a season where you're 2-10-2 shows a lot about their character. As good as winning feels, and it feels very, very good, I've most proud of how hard the players battled in the game and have all season.”

Chapman, who had sent the game into overtime with a game-tying goal eight minutes earlier, took a pass from junior Jess Kerwin over the middle before lofting the ball over the reach of Lock Haven goalie Dana Wozniak then got mobbed by her teammates and the Mountie mascot at midfield.
Mansfield started the game fast as well with senior Erika Moyer scoring her sixth game of the season just 95 seconds into the game on an assist from Kerwin.

Lock Haven (6-5-4, 3-5-3 PSAC) tied the game at 1-1 in the 17th minute with Jamie Hunter beat the MU goalie to the left post for all the scoring in the first half.

Samantha Biondi gave the Bald Eagles their first lead of the afternoon taking a rebounded shot off the goalie and putting it back for a 2-1 lead.
With less than eight minute remaining in regulation play, Chapman dribbled through a pack of defenders and got off a shot in front of the net that found its way just inside the post for the game-tying goal.

The win was an historical one for the Mountaineers who recorded their first win over a PSAC opponent since beating Bloomsburg 1-0 in overtime back on Oct. 17, 2009 and snapping a 41-game non-winning streak against PSAC competition.

Moyer's goal was her sixth of the season and 16th of her career putting her one goal behind second-place Colleen Corcoran (17, 2004-07) on the all-time goals list.

Alexis Wilhelm recorded 9 saves on the afternoon for Mansfield.

Mansfield, which has a won, tie and loss over their last three games – all against PSAC competition.

The Mountaineers travel to Bloomsburg on Wednesday before hosting Edinboro for Senior Day Saturday.
