SHIPPENSBURG – Sophomores
Taryn Schawillie and
Brianna Velepec each scored goals, but the visiting Mountaineers fell on the road 10-2 to No. 3 ranked Shippensburg (7-2, 3-0 PSAC W) in a PSAC West match-up.
The Red Raiders got the scoring started early, recording four goals in the first seven minutes to take an early 4-0 lead.
Mansfield (3-4, 1-2 PSAC W) got on the board in the 22nd minute, when Schawillie took a
Jessie Wolski pass and placed it into goal to cut Ship's lead.
Shippensburg scored two unanswered goals to take a 6-1 lead into halftime.
The Mountaineers held a 10-2 save advantage at the half with sophomore
Kristie Rollman accounting for six of those saves herself.
In the second half, Shippensburg showed why they are the No. 3 ranked team in the nation, scoring four straight goals to lead 10-1 over Mansfield.
In the final minutes of the game, the Mountaineer's Velepec put a
Taryn Schawillie assist past the Red Raiders keeper.
Mansfield fell with a final score of 10-2 to the nationally ranked program.
The Mountaineers are back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 27 when they travel to Slippery Rock University in a PSAC West showdown. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
