Mansfield Drops 6-1 Decision against C.W. Post

MANSFIELD – The Mansfield University field hockey team fell to visiting C.W. Post University 6-1 in a “home game” on the road at Lock Haven University's Charlotte E. Smith field Saturday afternoon. It marks the third straight game that Mansfield has played a scheduled home game at Lock Haven.

The Mountaineers had a tough time countering C.W. Post's high powered offense, despite outshooting the visiting team 15-14 in the game.

The Pioneers opened up the scoring in the 10th minute when Helene Bruckner tapped in a Carlee Dragon pass to take the 1-0 lead.

Post added two more scores in the 15th and 16th minutes. Each of them scored by Carlee Dragon and assisted Bethany Semlear to give the Pioneers a 3-0 advantage over Mansfield.

Bruckner added one more score for C.W. Post to take a 4-0 lead into halftime.

The Mountaineers held a 4-3 corner advantage at half, but could not capitalize on the opportunities.

The Pioneers struck early in the second half to go up 5-0 on Mansfield in the 37th minute.

The Mansfield defense held Post scoreless until the 64th minute when Carlee Dragon scored her third goal of the game to take a the 6-0 lead.

The Mountie offense came together to prevent the shutout when sophomore Taryn Schawillie placed a Kristy Tutorow pass into goal to cut the deficit in the 69th minute.

The Pioneer's lead was too great and Mansfield fell with a final score of 6-1.

Mountaineer keepers Kristie Rollman and Jamie Twist split time in goal for Mansfield while recording two saves each.

With the lose Mansfield falls to 2-3 on the season while C.W. post improves to 4-1.

The Mounties are back in action September 21 when they take on Seton Hill in a home match at Spaulding field. Game time is set for 4:00pm.
