MANSFIELD – Mansfield University cross country standout Brenae Edwards is set to take on the nation's top runners this Saturday, November 19 when she competes in the 2011 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships in Spokane, Washington.

Edwards qualified for the NCAA Championships with a third place finish at the Atlantic Regional Championships two weeks ago, helping the Mansfield women to a best-ever 6th place team finish. The third place individual effort, earned the Hazelton native All-Region honors for the third time in her career.

A week prior to the Regional Championships, Edwards finished third overall at the women's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships hosted by Lock Haven University. Edwards' time guided the Mountie women to another record-setting performance, as the team finished fifth overall.

During the regular season, Edwards helped put Mansfield in the national spotlight when the Mounties garnered their first-ever national ranking by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The women's squad rose as high as No. 21 in national polls. During that time, Mansfield was also raking No. 3 in the highly competitive Atlantic Region.

Edwards is no stranger to national championship competitions. Last year, Edwards qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships in Albuquerque, NM, finishing seventh in the women's 5,000m and earning All-American honors. In 2010, Edwards yet again earned All-American accolades, finishing fifth overall in the women's 5,000m run at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Charlotte, NC.

Streaming video of the championships will be availible HERE.
