LOCK HAVEN –
Taryn Schawillie's goal in the opening minutes of overtime lifted Mansfield to a 3-2 victory over Slippery Rock in PSAC West action Wednesday night. The contest was played at Lock Haven University's Charlotte E. Smith Field due to poor field conditions at Mansfield's Spaulding Field.
The game was deadlocked in a scoreless tie for much of the first half until Mansfield ( 5-12, 3-6 PSAC West ) scored two straight goals to take a 2-0 lead over Slippery Rock (5-12, 4-5 PSAC West) just before halftime.
Senior
Jillian Richards gave the Mounties the lead when she placed the ball into goal on a penalty swipe attempt in the 29
th minute. Minutes later, junior
Kristyn Grunza added to the Mansfield lead, beating the Rock keeper via a
Kristy Tutorow penalty corner pass.
Keeper
Kristie Rollman recorded two saves and
Sarah Zwick added a defensive save to keep Slippery Rock off the board in the first half.
In the second half, The Rock showed they wouldn't go away easily, cutting the lead with a Rebecca Coleman goal in the 37
th minute to trail 2-1.
Mansfield rallied to maintain their lead, but looming thunderstorms forced a lightning delay with just over 10 minutes to play in the game.
After resuming play, Slippery Rock's Skylar Brosse forced overtime with game-tying goal in the 66
th minute.
A Rollman save and a
Jessi Swingle defensive save prevented a Rock score until Schawillie put the game away in the 72

The Mounties will travel to Mercyhurst College this Saturday, Oct. 22 in a PSAC West match-up.
