Turnovers plague Mansfield in 39-14 setback at Pennsylvania

PHILADELPHIA – Mansfield turned the ball over five times and Penn's Mike Beamish rushed for 163 as the Quakers handed Mansfield a 39-14 setback in a CSFL contest at historic Franklin Field Friday night.

Penn controlled the ball for 35 minutes of the game and ran 67 plays to Mansfield's 56 in racking up 502-yards in total offese to Mansfield's 349 yards.

After a scoreless first quarter, Penn scored on a 25-yard field goal by Michael Bass early in the second quarter and increased the lead to 9-0 when quarterback Todd Busler ran for a 15-yard touchdown capping off a 10-play 80-yard drive drive with just under five minutes remaining in the first half.

The Quakers would score again a little over a minute later with a 22-yard field goal by Bass following a Mansfield turnover to take a 13-0 lead into halftime.

Penn scored on its first possession of the second half on a 1-yard pass from Busler to Matthew Wetherell to increase its lead to 19-0.

Mansfield took the ensuing kickoff and marched 80-yards on 15 plays with freshman Josh Harrison scoring on an 8-yard run but the PAT attempt failed with Mansfield trailing 19-6 with a little over five minutes remaining the in third quarter.

Penn scored three times in the fourth quarter before Mansfield's Kevin Valentine caught a 23-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Mike Doyle and the Mountaineers converted on a two-point pass with just over a minute left.

Doyle and Mike Maniscalco split time at quarterback with Doyle completing 12-of-14 attempts for 139-yards and a touchdown.

Mansfield falls to 1-4 overall and 1-3 in CSFL play while Penn improves to 3-1.
