MANSFIELD – Army quarterback Tim Meier passed for three first half touchdowns and the Black Knights  scored four touchdowns over a four-minute span in the second quarter, including two of them on Mansfield turnovers, to beat Mansfield 57-8 in a CSFL contest Saturday afternoon before more than 2,600 Family Day fans at Karl Van Norman Field Saturday afternoon.

Army used an up-tempo, Texas Tech style offense to put together a game-opening 70-yard scoring drive kept alive by a conversion on a key fourth-and-two from their own 46-yard line that ended with a 14-yard touchdown reception by Lamar Simmons from Meier.

Army got its next score after recovering a Mansfield fumble at the Mansfield 49 and scored 12-plays later on a 1-yard run by Eric Kanney to lead 13-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Meier hit Tom Jeffers on a 15-yard touchdown early in the second quarter set up by another Mansfield turnover and scored on another touchdown strike from Meier to Johnson – this one for 13-yards after Mansfield turned the ball over on downs on a muffed long-snap.

On the first play on the next series Mansfield's Kode Plank threw an interception that was returned 33-yards for a touchdown by Army's Carlos Cook and Army's Tyler Bambrick returned a Mansfield fumble for 45-yards on the Mountaineers next series to take a 40-0 lead.

Mansfield got on the scoreboard with just under seven minutes to go in the first half with quarterback Spencer La Mountain capping of a scoring drive with an 18-yard run and Mansfield closed to 40-8 when La Mountain hit Shane McHenry for a two-point conversion pass.

Mansfield turned the ball over six times on the afternoon, including four fumbles. Army held a 391-165
Michael Wallace running
advantage in total offense but was penalitized 12 times for 147-yards.

Meier completed 9-19 passes for 101-yard and three touchdowns for Army while Jeffers caught five passes for 71 yards and three scores.

Plank completed 5-15 passes for Mansfield for 83 yards before being forced to leave the game with senior Ben Anderton pulling down six catches for 64-yards. Michael Wallace ran for 44-yards on eight carries.

Eli Morgan, Paul Houseknecht, Solomon Isom and Justin DiMatteo all recorded eight tackles each to lead the Mountaineer defense while Troy Taylor returned an interception for 13 yards.

Army (2-0, 1-0 CSFL) was led by Clayton Rife with a game-high eight tackles.

Mansfield falls to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in CSFL play. The Mountaineers travel to Princeton for a conference game this coming Friday night.
