FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Big second half lifts Mansfield past UDC 62-57 – Carr and Anthony each post double-doubles for Mountaineers

BOX SCORE

MANSFIELDYuseff Carr and Derrison Anthony combined for 18 second half points to rally Mansfield to a 62-57 win over a stubborn University of the District of Columbia Thursday night at Decker Gymnasium.

“It was a wake-up call for us,” said head coach Rich Miller. “It goes to show that at this level you can't ever take anything for granted. We beat them down at their place a couple of weeks ago but they're a good team especially if we don't play up to our capabilities.”

Mansfield trailed 35-24 at halftime and 46-38 with just under 12 minutes remaining in the game before rallying to take a 47-46 lead on a 3-pointer by Kyle Bradley two minutes later.

With 2:32 to play, UDC's Brandon Herbert gave UDC what would prove to be its final lead hitiing a jumper for a 57-56 advantage but it would be the final points of the game for UDC.

Mansfield led 58-57 on a layup by Tony Fannick with 42 seconds left and scored the game's final four points on free throws by Carr and Josh DuPuy to improve to 6-1 on the season.

Carr and Anthony each recorded double-doubles for Mansfield with Carr scoring a game-high 19 points with 11 rebounds and Anthony scoring 13 points and 13 rebounds.
Kyle Bradley

UDC (0-7) was led by Brendan Herbert with 15 points.

It was the third lowest amount of points scored in a win by the Mountaineers in the last four years.

Mansfield did get nice production off the bench from Kyle Bradley who had eight points and six rebounds after coming into the game to replace starter Tony Fannick who had gotten into foul trouble. It marks the first time since the 2007-8 season Mansfield has opened at 6-1.

With his 18 points Carr surpasses Dennis Lomax (1970-73) for 15th place on the all-time scoring list with 1161 points.

Mansfield host Le Moyne Saturday evening at Decker Gymnasium.
