On April 6th 2026, the Mansfield Department of Athletics named Matthew Sprague as the next head strength and conditioning coach for the Mountaineers.
Sprague comes to Mansfield from NCAA Division I Central Michigan University where he served as Assistant Director of Strength and Conditioning. At CMU, he created programs for the baseball and soccer teams, and assisted with the football team.
Prior to Central Michigan, Sprague was a graduate assistant with Youngstown State University. Sprague had direct oversight of program design and implementation for the track and field team’s sprinters and the women’s tennis program. He worked with athletic trainers on Return to Play (RTP) protocol and was responsible for RTP athletes during lifts and practice.
Sprague interned with Penn State University and the University of Michigan prior to his stint as a graduate assistant at YSU.
Sprague earned a Bachelor of Science in exercise science from Slippery Rock University in 2023 and is a certified Strength and Conditioning specialist by the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
